Chinese house arrest escapee releases video

| International News | Sunday April 29 2012 13:49

The Chinese dissident who escaped from supposedly heavily guarded house arrest last weekend has released a video in which he directly addresses the Chinese premier.

Supporters helped 40-year-old lawyer Chen Guangcheng to escape after 18 months in detention.

In the video posted on several websites Chen describes his house arrest as being even worse than his supporters had discussed on the internet.

He says he's now free, but is worried about the safety of his wife, child and mother.

He's urged the premier to have the situation in his home town investigated, saying officials there are corrupt.

Activists say Chen is somewhere in Beijing, possibly at the US Embassy.
