Barack Obama has repeated his plan to stamp out gun violence in his US State of the Union speech. With more than two dozen Americans in the chamber whose lives have been affected by a shooting, Obama claimed they deserve to see lawmakers vote for tougher gun control. "The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek and Tucson and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence - they deserve a simple vote." President Obama also says for the sake of American children, congress must combat climate change. He's pledged to support the development of wind and solar power along with cleaner natural gas. "I'm also issuing a new goal for America: let's cut in half the energy wasted by our homes and businesses over the next 20 years." Photo: Getty Images |
