Activist Guangcheng arrives in the US

| International News | Sunday May 20 2012 10:47

The Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng has finally arrived in the US.

He was put on a plane from Beijing last night, and has flown to New York where he's been promised a scholarship to study law.

As CNN's Stan Grant reports, his departure from China removes a sticking point in relations between the two countries.

"This is someone who has been considered an enemy of the state, a campaigner against alleged forced abortions and sterilisations under China's one child policy. Over the past couple of weeks there's been very little coverage of Chen here inside the country and any coverage there has been has been to portray him as a traitor."
