Young Aussies encouraged to take out travel insurance

By: Newstalk ZB staff | International News | Sunday November 18 2012 18:10

Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr says growing numbers of young Australians getting into trouble overseas.

He has made the comments during the launch of a A$2.6 million Federal Government campaign, aimed at encouraging Australians to take out travel insurance before heading overseas.

Senator Carr says people need to remember Australian laws do not apply overseas.

"About 14,000 Australians get into some difficulty overseas each year, and that difficulty is going to be a whole lot less if they've got travel insurance, and a whole lot less if they've registered with Smartraveller."
