US earthquake swarm most significant since 1970s

By: Newstalk ZB staff | International News | Tuesday August 28 2012 6:24

It's hoped California's earthquake swarm is over.

There have been 439 separate earthquakes in the last 36 hours - 54 of them have been above magnitude three.

CNN reports meteorologist Casey Wian says this has happened in the Brawley Seismic Zone, which sits between two faults.

"These earthquake swarms are fairly common in this region, but experts say this is the most significant patch of earthquakes that they have seen actually since the 1970s."
