By: Felix Marwick | Latest Health News | Wednesday October 24 2012 18:42

The scope of free after-hours doctor care for children under six is being extended.

ACC Minister Judith Collins says visits covered by ACC will now also be free with the new arrangement to be in place before Christmas.

She says the change will encourage families to seek urgent care when its needed and before its too late.

Ms Collins says it'll also help reduce the numbers of child patients presenting at hospital emergency departments.
