Shaping Cities for Health report critical of NZ

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Health News | Friday June 1 2012 11:56

New Zealand has been singled out for all the wrong reasons in a new report examining how the design of a city affects the health of its residents.

UK Medical Journal The Lancet has commissioned the Shaping Cities for Health report, critically examining a number of countries around the world.

Despite being categorised as an advanced economy, we're singled out as an exception in the OECD with relatively high levels and patterns of disease, especially amongst children, and an under-supply of warm, affordable housing.

One of the authors, Wellington-based Professor Phillippa Howden-Chapman says copies of the report are being sent to those in power and councils to ponder.
