The New Zealand supplier of the chicken pox vaccine has run out of stock.
GlaxoSmithKline, which imports the vaccine, says there has been a nearly 40 per cent increase in the use of Varilrix between this time last year and now.
General manager Anna Stove believes it is due to recent media reports about the importance of getting chicken pox vaccinations and the fact PHARMAC is considering funding the vaccine.
She says winter is also the start of chicken pox season.
Anna Stove says the company's Varilrix supply will be flown in this weekend and is expected to land on Monday.
She says orders are expected to be sent to medical clinics from Wednesday.
