Significant step towards standardised medicines

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Health News | Monday August 6 2012 12:03

PHARMAC has taken a significant step towards standardising hospital medicines throughout the country.

The national pharmaceuticals funder has released two lists of medicines that it proposes every District Health Board hospital will fund.

Medical Director Dr Peter Moodie says the objective of the proposal is to give certainty over what medicines are available in all hospitals.

He says they want to avoid the situation where medicines are funded in some DHB regions but not in others, and a standardised national list will do that.
