Favourite snacks could soon be healthier

Some of our favourite snack foods and chocolate biscuits and could be about to get healthier.

The Australian makers of companies such as Nestle, Unilever and Arnotts are planning to cut out a quarter of the fat and salt content from their products over the next few years.

The changes will be self regulated.

Aloysa Hourigan from Nutrition Australia says it's a good start, but it's not a green light to go and eat more.

"People still need to be aware that you don't just want a food that contains kilojoules, you do want a food that offers some vitamins and minerals, and good for your health in other ways."
