A 16-year-old New Zealander has become the first female solo artist in 17 years to top a major alternative music chart in the United States.
Lorde has reached number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart with the song Royals.
She's the first lead solo female to rule the ranking since Tracy Bonham in 1996, months before Lorde was born.
Previous female solo artist winners include Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Suzanne Vega, Sinead O'Connor and Kate Bush.
