A horror film starring Elijah Wood has been banned from general release here - but can be shown at film festivals.
The serial killer movie Maniac is being shown as part of the Incredibly Strange section of the New Zealand International Film Festival.
It's filmed entirely in the first person point of view.
Ant Timpson, who brought the film here for the festival, says The Office of Film and Literature Classification decision says the film may be 'injurious to the public good' and dangerous in the hands of the wrong person.
He disagrees with that, saying it's a big leap to make.
Ant Timpson says Maniac is one the finest horror films in recent years, as its selection for the Cannes Film Festival last year shows.
