Larry Hagman of 'Dallas' fame passes away

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Entertainment News | Saturday November 24 2012 17:49

American actor Larry Hagman, famous on television for several seasons in the 70s and 80s in the series 'Dallas', has died in a hospital in Dallas, apparently arising from complications from his battle with throat cancer.

He played the part of cattle baron JR Ewing, and was at the centre of one of the most intriguing cliffhanger episodes in TV history: Who shot JR?

Earlier in the 1960s, Hagman played the role of Tony Nelson on the fantasy comedy I Dream of Jeannie.

This year Hagman returned to episodic TV with a new updated series of 'Dallas'.

His mother was Broadway star Mary Martin.

He was 81.
