A painting by Ralph Hotere has been sold at auction in Auckland for $183,000.
He's described as New Zealand's most celebrated living artist and was last year appointed to the Order of New Zealand, the country's highest honour.
The painting, Vive Aramoana, celebrates a successful campaign to stop an aluminium smelter being built at Aramoana on the Otago Peninsula.
It was sold to an unnamed bidder at the International Art Centre in Auckland last night.
