Firefighters are battling a pine plantation blaze in the Manawatu.

The Fire Service was alerted to the fire on Ridge Road, near Feilding at 6:30pm.

A fire communications spokesman says about half the 50 acre plantation is on fire.

He says while access is limited, rural fire officers have gone in on foot and they're slowly getting the fire under control.
