Van crash leaves one dead

| Latest Emergency News | Tuesday September 25 2012 17:37

A van carrying eight elderly people has crashed north of Dargaville, killing one.

The vehicle left the road and came to rest in a ditch this afternoon, with one person confirmed to have died at the scene and others being and transported to hospital by ambulance and helicopter.

State Highway 14 has been closed as a result, but no practical diversions are in place.

The road is blocked as tow trucks are trying to secure the van which is in a precarious position.

The closure is expected to be in place for some hours.
