By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Emergency News | Tuesday January 17 2012 13:25

Five people have been taken to hospital following a head-on car crash on a Manawatu Gorge detour route.

The two car collision occurred on the Saddle Road just after 8am this morning.

One male is in a critical condition at Palmerston North hospital while four other people are still being assessed.

Traffic on Saddle Road has increased tenfold after a large slip closed the Manawatu Gorge nearly six months ago.
