| Latest Emergency News | Monday August 13 2012 17:48

A man is in Tauranga Hospital after the wheels from a large truck came off and hit his car as he drove down State Highway 2 this afternoon.

The man was travelling towards Te Puke when the rear wheels from a heavy truck and trailer unit came off and struck his car.

Emergency services were called to the incident, between Domain Rd and Te Maunga, just after 1.30pm.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the collision caused extensive damage to the car and the man was understood to have suffered chest injuries.
