Tramper missing in Hunua Ranges

| Latest Emergency News | Sunday June 17 2012 13:40

A search is underway in the Hunua Ranges near Auckland for an overdue tramper.

The man was last in contact with friends yesterday afternoon, when he texted that he was delayed, but he hasn't been heard from since.

The 36-year-old was wearing only a lightweight jacket and shorts, and was carrying a black day pack.

Search coordinator Sergeant Dene Duthie wants to hear from anyone who was in the ranges, especially in the Mangatawhiri and Waharau areas.

The man is described as being of Asian or Polynesian appearance, and of stocky build.
