Tramper flown out of Tararua Ranges

By: Katrina Bennett | Latest Emergency News | Thursday April 5 2012 12:05

A tramper has been airlifted to safety after spending a cold, wet night in the Tararua Ranges.

The man activated a distress beacon around 9:30pm yesterday, but bad weather prevented helicopter crews from being able to rescue him. They were able to locate the man using night vision equipment and returned to rescue him this morning.

The tramper had a minor injury to his knee but didn't require any hospital treatment. He was taken to Masterton and reunited with his fellow trampers.
