Two women killed in fiery car crash

| Latest Emergency News | Saturday April 21 2012 17:34

Gisborne police won't release until sometime tomorrow the names of the two women who died early last night in a fiery smash between a car and a ute.

Police say the women were from the Gisborne area and next of kin are still being informed.

The car they were in collided head on with the utility, on State Highway Two near Te Karaka.

The car burst into flames soon after the impact.

Both victims died at the scene.

The driver of the ute, a 46-year-old man is in a stable condition in Gisborne Hospital with moderate injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
