Three rescued in Wairarapa capsizing

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Emergency News | Sunday April 22 2012 17:40

Three people had to be rescued when their fishing boat capsized off the Wairarapa coast this morning.

The boat was making it's way back through the Castlepoint harbour entrance when it lost power and was hit by large swells.

Castlepoint fire chief Anders Crofoot says a 12-year-old girl was trapped in an air pocket under the boat while her father was hit on the head by the boat's hull.

Mr Crofoot says the three were helped out of the water by locals before the injured man was taken to Masterton hospital to have his head treated.
