Green Party speaks out over league tables publishing

By: Aroha Tahau | Latest Education News | Saturday September 22 2012 15:15

The Green Party's angry primary school league tables have been published in some media today.

A number of New Zealand media organisations collated nationwide results from National Standards data and published them earlier today.

Green Party spokesperson for education, Catherine Delahunty says the tables are based on unreliable data and it is a big step back in education in New Zealand.

"I think that everyone from the Prime Minister onwards has called that data ropey. It's the first year of National Standards, which we didn't support. What's more, it's un-moderated data that has been collected in different ways by different schools and means different things."

Ms Delahunty says the publishing of this information today fails to take several factors into account.
