Parents battle to keep special needs units open

By: Aroha Tahau | Latest Education News | Sunday October 14 2012 15:44

Over 12,000 signatures have been collected by west Auckland parents in a battle to keep special needs units in schools throughout the country open.

Although the Government has backed down on class sizes they are are still threatening the closure of several special needs units, and parents of children with special needs are worried that their children will be put back into a system which has already failed them.

A spokesperson for the petition, Meredydd Barrar, says parents from a Ranui special needs unit collected the thousands of signatures and they are optimistic that the Government will pay attention.

The petition will be presented to Parliament on Thursday.
