Teachers demand clarity over delayed pay

By: Jacqui Stanford | Latest Education News | Saturday October 13 2012 8:35

Teachers are demanding an assurance from the Education Ministry their payroll issues will be sorted by the next pay cycle.

Many teachers have been frustrated because their pay hasn't been right since the new Novopay system came into effect.

The NZEI's Paul Goulter says as well as offering some certainty, the ministry also needs to improve its call centre.

"We have reports from all around the country that people can't get through. They wait for hours and just finally give up and try again later"

Mr Goulter says principals have also been deflected into sorting out pay issues, which has taken them away from other duties.
