University silent over medical student deception

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Education News | Tuesday October 16 2012 5:16

Auckland University's saying little about claims a student has faked his way through two years of a medical degree.

It's understood the School of Medicine is investigating how a student, who was denied entry into the programme, attended lectures, labs, tutorials and went on placement, without being detected for two years.

A fellow student has written a letter to Newstalk ZB, saying the man obtained a forged student doctor ID and was permitted to interview patients.

He also had access to confidential patient information between last year and this year.

Auckland University hasn't returned calls on the matter.
