More needs to be done to help Pacific learners

A report by the Education Review Office has found minimal progress has been made to accelerate the achievement of Pacific learners.

The Education Review Office has just released its third report into the achievement of Pacific learners, and as a result of the report schools are being told to make the success of Pacific students a priority.

Chief review officer Dr Graham Stoop says he wants school leaders, boards and the wider education sector to read the report.

"We'd like to think that schools can do a lot more in terms of focusing on the needs of Pacific students. Some schools are doing a wonderful job, and we want all schools to do the same."

Mr Stoop says schools need to collect and analyse assessment information from their Pacific students.

"Then they need to ask themselves 'in light of what we know, what are the next steps what we can do, in this particular school, in classrooms at this school, to make a difference?'"
