School heads to court to save itself

By: Adam Walker | Latest Education News | Monday July 2 2012 5:30

Kawerau Intermediate's Board of Trustees heads to court this morning, in a last ditch attempt to stop the Ministry of Education from closing its school.

The board will spend today and tomorrow in the High Court at Rotorua arguing its case.

The Ministry of Education announced last year it was closing the town's intermediate and college, and replacing them with a dual campus junior and senior school on the college site.

Kawerau Intermediate principal Daryl Aim says there are three key parts to the case against the Ministry.

He says they believe the Ministry had made up its mind before consulting the community, failed to take into account what the community wanted, and was very selective in what information it used.
