ERO decision "excellent" - Parata

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Education News | Tuesday August 21 2012 12:46

The decision by the Education Review Office to remove decile ratings from its reports is being labelled "excellent" by the Education Minister.

The Office says the reason behind the change is to remove the concept that a school's decile is equivalent to its performance.

Hekia Parata says it will help parents, schools and communities get a better idea of just how their school is performing.

"I think that there's been an inaccurate connection between the decile status of a community in which a school is located and the actual quality of teaching and learning that's going in schools."
