Ministry denies wrongdoing following complaint

By: Shani Annand-Baron | Latest Education News | Friday October 26 2012 6:44

The Ministry of Education is flat out denying any wrongdoing following a complaint from a Christchurch parent.

Matthew Cox says he has caught the ministry red-handed telling the city council to say it 'does not hold' the data he requested in an Official Information Act request about school proposals.

However, the Secretary for Education has released a statement defending her organisation's actions.

Lesley Longstone says she's reviewed the OIA request in question, and is completely satisfied that there was no directive to the council about what they should do.

She says nothing unlawful was done.

Lesley Longstone says this is simply a case of a staff member trying to provide some guidance to another organisation.
