Escaped prisoner on run in Chch

An escaped prisoner is on the run in Christchurch.

Jayson Nopera Rule kicked in a cell door at the temporary courthouse at Nga Hau e Wha Marae yesterday afternoon.

The 31-year-old had appeared at the court on charges of assault and breaching home detention.

Police say he escaped on foot and they're now making enquiries at addresses known to Rule and with his associates.

He is described as a male Maori, 180 cm tall, of medium muscular build.

Anyone who has information on his whereabouts, is asked to contact Christchurch police.
