Couple in court for stealing iPhones

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Crime News | Monday April 23 2012 13:27

An Asian couple have appeared in the New Plymouth District Court today after using fake ID's to steal iPhones.

Chi Chiu Tui and Yuen Fan Chan were charged with four counts of fraud and one of theft.

The Hong Kong duo targeted New Plymouth Vodafone and Telecom stores on Friday, using false New Zealand Drivers Licenses to buy the iPhone 4s on a no-money-down contract.

They managed to get away with two iPhones and two sim cards from Telecom Business Hub worth $2,000 before they were caught.

Tui was remanded on bail, while Chan, who is an overstayer, was remanded in custody.

They will both reappear on Thursday.
