Social media aids Waikato police

| Latest Crime News | Monday May 7 2012 12:53

Social media has come to the aid of Waikato police hunting for a fleeing driver.

Overnight a driver was involved in a petrol drive off from a Te Kuiti Station and later fled police, colliding with another vehicle at an intersection.

While police were checking that the driver of the other car was okay, the wanted driver sped off.

Senior Sergeant Gill Meadows says they posted a description of the 25-year-old Auckland man on their Facebook page this morning.

She says that resulted in a tip off and the man now faces a raft of charges including reckless driving.

Senior Sergeant Meadows says it simply proves the worth of social media.
