Botanic burglary in Kapiti

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Crime News | Thursday September 20 2012 9:15

Kapiti environmentalists are on the trail of a burglar with a penchant for plants.

More than 50 native trees have been ripped from the ground at a restoration site south of the Waikanae River.

Kapiti Environmental Restoration Trust chairman John Topliff says no one has owned up to the botanical burglary yet, though he's had tips from members of the public.

He says a middle-aged woman was seen coming out of the bushes pushing a bike with plants in its basket.

Mr Topliff wants the thief to do the right thing and own up to taking the trees.
