Former Fijian Prime Minister found guilty of corruption

By: Anna Cross | Latest Crime News | Tuesday July 31 2012 17:51

Former Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has been found guilty of corruption charges.

They include six counts of abuse of office and three counts of discharging his duty with respect to property in which he has a private interest.

Qarase had a blank stare, sitting in the dock as Justice Fernando handed down his judgement in a packed court room in Suva.

His lawyer Tupou Draunidalo then applied for bail pending sentencing, which has been granted.
