Police are appealing to the public for information after an early morning assault on a 16-year-old Napier girl.

She and two others were approached by three girls on Riverbend Road about 1am yesterday morning.

The girls yelled abuse at the other three, before assaulting the 16-year-old and stealing her cell phone.

The victim has swelling and bruising to her head and grazes to her knee.

The offenders are described as being 17 to 18-years-old, Maori and of a solid build.
