Pilot found guilty over illegal take-off

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Crime News | Friday March 8 2013 15:57

A Pacific Blue pilot has been found guilty of carelessly operating an aircraft during a Queenstown takeoff in 2010.

The 54-year-old Auckland-based pilot, who has interim name suppression, was subject to a complex trial in Queentown District Court last year.

The Civil Aviation Authority said the pilot illegally took off from Queenstown Airport in June 2010 within the 30 minute civil twilight cut-off period at 5:45pm.

Judge Kevin Phillips today released a written decision, finding the pilot guilty of operating a Boeing 737 in a careless manner.

The Queenstown District Court is arranging a date for sentencing.
