There's been a frenzied attack on a lower North Island rowing club.
All the boats at Levin's Horowhenua Rowing Club have been vandalised, causing up to $40,000 worth of damage.
Horowhenua Mayor Brendon Duffy says the attack is over ownership of Lake Horowhenua, which has nothing to do with rowers.
He says it's a magnificent family club, innocently rowing on a lake, and what he calls some mongrel has wrecked it for everyone.
Brendon Duffy says they've pulled the boats off the racks and using a steel instrument, punctured holes in all of the 30 boats.
He says it's a step too far.
He says a police investigation is underway and those responsible will be caught.
