Police want help after Otaki bank drama

By: Kaye Albyt | Latest Crime News | Monday October 1 2012 15:43

Otaki police hope someone will have noticed a distinctively dressed robber, who fled across several properties after firing a shot in a bank.

The man entered the ANZ on the main street, and when tellers refused to hand over cash, he shot at the security door and tried to bash it down.

He fled empty-handed.

Detective Sergeant Marc Hercock says the robber wore a blue mask with white teeth on it, a high viz jacket and orange gloves.

"He would have been quite visible, and he would still have had those clothes on. We want anyone that has seen any of those items discarded to contact police."

Detective Sergeant Hercock says it was a harrowing time for the five tellers and two customers.

"There were five staff and two customers at the time, and it was a relatively terrifying experience for them. But they are all unhurt, and currently helping police with inquiries."
