Multimillion dollar designer drug ring shut down

By: Nina Burton | Latest Crime News | Tuesday August 28 2012 15:30

A multimillion dollar designer drug ring has been shut down following a five month investigation.

Fourteen search warrants were executed by Police and Customs, leading to the arrest of eight men and seven women in Napier and Auckland.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Cahill says the sophisticated syndicate was getting drugs from Singapore and China, in the form of powder.

He says around $100,000 cash, four cars, several thousand pills, and three kilograms of ingredients used to make drugs have been seized.

"One of the dealers alone has purchased four and a half million dollars worth of pills from the New Zealand importer."

Chris Cahill says an international money laundering operation was also uncovered.

More arrests are likely.
