Police frustrated at silence over stabbing

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Crime News | Monday April 9 2012 6:24

A wall of silence is frustrating the inquiry into a stabbing in Carterton.

A 41-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition at Masterton Hospital, after getting into a fight on Kent Street on Saturday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says police have tried to speak to the injured man several times.

And witnesses haven't been much help either.

"Presently we're finding that the witnesses that we've spoken to to date are somewhat reluctant to provide us any information so it's proving difficult to advance the inquiries at this stage."

He says police want to hear from anyone who was around the Kent Street area near Paua World late on Saturday night.

"We've focused our inquiries around the scene down in Kent Street in Carterton and look, we're really keen to hear from any person who witnessed the incident between these two people."
