Court appearance for Serenity's murder-accused

By: Juliette Sivertsen | Latest Crime News | Monday January 30 2012 6:10

A 21-year-old's set to appear in the Hamilton District Court today charged with the murder of six-month old Serenity Jay Scott-Dinnington.

Serenity died in Starship Hospital after being injured in her home in Ngaruawahia last April.

Waikato Police say yesterday's arrest is a credit to the tenacity of their investigation team, the support of local agencies and the community.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene says while the arrest is a major milestone, there's still plenty of work to be done.

He says it's an example of how serious police view incidents of child abuse and he's urging all parents to look after their kids, love them and protect them.
