Former prison guard reprimanded over contraband

By: Laura Heathcote | Latest Crime News | Tuesday November 27 2012 21:04

Corrections is assuring the public about the integrity of its staff, after a former prison guard today admitted taking contraband into Waikato's Spring Hill Prison.

Mila Matuiofiga will be sentenced next year, after being dismissed from his job after reportedly being found with drugs during a routine search.

Corrections spokesman Terry Buffery says he takes fraudulent behaviour very seriously, and it's hugely upsetting when one individual fails to live up to the Department's usual high standards.

He says the Corrections has implemented a number of measures to ensure integrity is deeply infused in the culture of their workplace.
