Burnt body murderer pleads guity

By: Caleb Allison | Latest Crime News | Monday February 20 2012 10:09

The man accused of setting his wife on fire on the side of a rural Waikato road has pleaded guilty

Diwesh Sharma was charged with the murder of his wife Ranjeeta Sharma in January last year.

He made the plea in the High Court in Hamilton today as his murder trial was about to start.

Sharma poured accelerant over her while she was still alive on a road west of Huntly.

He then escaped to Fiji with the couple's four-year-old son, but was found shortly after by Fiji Police and brought back to New Zealand.

He will be sentenced in April.
