Police searching for attempted bank robber

Police are still searching for a distinctively dressed man who they say attempted to rob a bank in Otaki.

The man entered the ANZ on the main street and when tellers refused to hand over cash, shot at the security door and tried to bash it down.

Detective Sergeant Marc Hercock says the robber wore a blue mask with white teeth on it, a high viz jacket and orange gloves.

He says the man may have discarded the items when he ran from police.

They want to hear from any witnesses to the incident or anyone who's come across the items.
