Hunt for Te Aroha man not related to roadworks shooting

Waikato police are distancing their hunt for a Te Aroha man from a fatal shooting near Tokoroa.

Police are looking for 34-year-old Cameron Ashby, who they say has a disturbingly violent history.

Police say their hunt for him is not related to the homicide enquiry in the Kinleith Forest.

They say Cameron Ashby was sentenced to 10-years-imprisonment in 2005 and was released on parole but has since breached his parole conditions.

Ashby is described as a male Maori, of medium build and is about 180 centimetres tall.

He has known connections in the Hamilton, Waihi, Paeroa and Karangahake Gorge areas.
