Third arrest made over Jewish grave vandalism

By: Nina Burton | Latest Crime News | Monday October 22 2012 13:13

Auckland police have made a third arrest over the defacing of Auckland gravestones.

20 headstones were spray-painted with anti Nazi symbols, and anti Semitic slogans in the central city graveyard in Symonds Street.

A 19 and 23-year-old were charged with wilful damage when arrested yesterday, and police have now arrested a 20-year-old as well.

They're appearing in the Auckland District Court this week.

Meanwhile, police are investigating possible links to a Grey Lynn property which was also vandalised with Nazi emblems, similar to the gravestones.

Owner Steve Saussey says the house was being renovated and is currently unoccupied.

He says interior walls were also kicked in, and paint splashed everywhere.
