Teen facing charges after failing to stop for police in Dargaville

Related

A teenage boy is facing several driving charges after failing to stop for police in Dargaville yesterday afternoon.

About 3.15pm police attempted to stop a car on Colville Road and the driver sped away.

Police followed the car but stopped following the vehicle because of its dangerous driving.

The driver then drove over road spikes on the Northern Wairoa Bridge, swerved, lost control and the vehicle came to rest on its roof in a drain.

The passenger received minor injuries and the driver was uninjured.

The 16-year-old, who was driving, now faces charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, dangerous driving causing injury and failing to stop.

He was due to appear in the Whangärei Youth Court today.
