Rotorua man sentenced to 16 months prison

By: Adam Walker | Latest Crime News | Thursday September 6 2012 18:47

A 60-year-old Rotorua man has been sent to prison for the grooming and indecent assault of a teenaged girl.

Murray Taylor was today sentenced to 16 months in prison, after previously pleading guilty to three indecent assault charges.

The offending took place in late 2010, early 2011, while the victim was doing weekend work at Mr Taylor's workplace.

The grooming started when Mr Taylor gave the victim gifts and begun to kiss and cuddle her.

The offending then escalated to Taylor taking the victim to out the way locations, taking off her clothes and fondling her.

In sentencing Judge Philip Cooper talked through the victim impact statement which described the severe emotional impact of the assaults.
