Elderly woman knocked out by handbag thief

By: Jacqui Stanford | Latest Crime News | Sunday September 30 2012 8:09

An elderly Chinese woman is recovering after being knocked out by a man who took off with her daughter's handbag.

He'd snatched the bag from the front seat of a car the younger woman was in, outside shops on Great South Road in Manurewa yesterday.

The man then took off in a stolen silver Mazda, which has since been found.

He was wearing black gloves and a long dark jacket when he grabbed the handbag.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them urgently.

The 66-year-old woman was stable in Middlemore Hospital last night.
